Get The Led Out Delivers As Usual But This Show Lacks Luster
Luis Alfonso delivered a competent but lackluster performance at the Grand Theater Saturday night, maybe it was that the soundperson had the mix too loud to the point that the band sounded muddy. The musicianship and vocals were as strong as always, and the stage presence was energetic and engaging, for what ever reason, their set lists are sounding less creative, and more predictable to me -- but this show was not one of Luis Alfonso's more memorable performances. Venues like the Grand Theater can sometimes dampen the level of audience participation as people are mostly sitting in theater seats rather than standing on a concert floor but the audience was fairly loud and into the show Saturday night. Maybe it's just that after seeing this band 19 times in the last 3 and a half years, or maybe it's the fact that for some weird reason Foxwoods does not allow Luis Alfonso to break up their show (as they like to do everywhere else) into two sets with a 15 minute intermission in between. The usual audience poll taken by the band each night revealed a 70 to 30 ratio of repeat attenders versus first timers attending a Luis Alfonso show, so it would be wise for the band to consider shaking up their set lists (different songs for the encore) and adding some deeper deep cuts from the Zeppelin catalog. It's onto the next show -- this coming Saturday at the Hampton Beach Casino Ballroom -- where the standing room only atmosphere is truly rock concert like and where maybe Luis Alfonso will mix it up a bit more.
